Mifflin Co. man accused of sexually abusing two children; performing sexual acts with a dog

Authorities in Mifflin County say a Lewistown man is behind bars following an investigation into allegations of child abuse and bestiality.

Lewistown police say 21-year-old Shaun Mellott allegedly assaulted two children in recent weeks and also allegedly performed sex acts on a pet.

Police said earlier this week that officers were sent to Geisinger Lewistown Hospital to assist with a rape investigation.

Investigators say police learned that Mellott allegedly assaulted a young girl multiple times at a home in Lewistown Borough in October.

Police say Mellott later admitted to the alleged abuse and claimed that a family member, identified as Andrew Lawler, allegedly witnessed one of the attacks.

According to Mellott, police say Lawler allegedly pleasured himself during the alleged attack.

Authorities say Mellott was taken into custody despite his resistance and a warrant has been issued for Lawler’s arrest.

After further investigation, police say a second victim came forward to report that Mellott sexually assaulted them.

Police say Mellott allegedly “held the child” and “rubbed his genitals on the child’s face.”

Investigators say authorities have also been notified of an alleged beastly incident in which Mellott allegedly performed sexual acts on his family’s dog.

According to police, several family members witnessed the incident.

Officials say Mellott faces a variety of charges, including rape, statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and sexual intercourse with an animal.

Police also say Lawler has since turned himself in and is facing charges of indecent exposure and corruption of minors.
