No. 4 seed Mid-Island defeated No. 5 Staten Island, 16-6, in a Little League District 24 All-Star 12-year-old softball tournament play-in game Tuesday night in Travis. The game was stopped after four innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

“It feels nice to work our way into a semi-final spot after some tough losses,” said MI manager Julie Martin. “I hope to carry this momentum into the next game, and I just want the girls to have fun since the majority of them won’t be returning to Mid-Island next year.”

After spotting the Dongan Hills run, a couple of first inning runs coach, Julie Martin’s crew, came out with their batting shoes on.

The host team scored seven runs in the opening frame and added six in the bottom of the third to cruise to victory.

Madison Barber (two hits, two runs scored), Isabella Rodriguez (two hits, two RBI), Jenna Martin (two hits, three RBI) and Samantha Kashubo (two hits, two runs) all had big days at the plate for the offense . Jaclyn Mena added a two-run single.
