Michael Jordan’s legendary NBA career was filled with countless milestones and achievements, but one lucky bidder will get the chance to own a game-worn jersey from a rare moment that His Airness may want to forget.

Sotheby’s announced Thursday that it is offering a pre-owned red Chicago Bulls Jordan jersey from the 1996-97 season.

It was the jersey Jordan was wearing on March 12, 1997 when then-rookie sensation Allen Iverson crossed paths with him in a highlight reel that has become one of the Philadelphia 76ers legend’s most famous careers.

Sotheby’s, which also sold the 1998 NBA Finals Game 1 jersey worn by Jordan for $10.1 million in 2022, estimates the jersey will sell for $4 to $6 million.

While Jordan wore the jersey during the Iverson crossover, he also wore it for at least seventeen games in a span of five months. So that means there were plenty of moments where the five-time MVP thrived while wearing it.

After all, that 1996-97 season was excellent for number 23.

He led the league in scoring with 29.6 points per game and finished second in the MVP voting. He was also an All-NBA First-Team selection and an All-Defensive First-Team selection.

Most notably, Jordan led the Bulls to their second straight title in the midst of what would become the second three-peat of his career. It marked the fifth ring of a career that ended with six, and he was at his best when it mattered most, averaging 32.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game in the NBA Finals victory over the Utah Jazz.

As for Iverson, he won Rookie of the Year that season, which was his first major achievement in a Hall of Fame career that included a league MVP, four scoring titles, seven All-NBA selections and eleven All-Star -nominations.

Iverson is one of the few players in NBA history who can at least rival Jordan when it comes to career highlights, and Sotheby’s is giving fans the chance to own a piece of memorabilia that ties the two legends together .
