Mexican player gets 3-month ban for horror tackle

Dorados de Sinaloa defender Luis Ruiz has been suspended for three months by the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) for causing a serious injury to Atlante player Christian Bermudez.

The Atlante attacking midfielder suffered a double fracture in his lower right leg after a hard tackle from Ruiz on Bermudez during a Mexican second division match between the two teams on September 13.

The 22-year-old Ruiz will also be suspended for four matches for the red card he received after the offence, meaning he will not be able to play again until 2025.

Atlante reported the violent violation to the FMF disciplinary committee, which decided to punish Ruiz after questioning all parties and reviewing the official medical reports.

Bermudez, 37, underwent surgery to repair a fractured fibula and tibia. No time frame has been set for his return to the track.
