Meet the 2024 Commercial Appeal All-Metro Team

This is The Commercial Appeal’s All-Metro softball team for the 2024 TSSAA season.

Player of the year

Addy Graham

Arlington

Infielder | Sr.

Why chosen: Graham hit for a .692 batting average and 59 RBIs for the Tigers, who qualified for the Class 4A state tournament.

Rest of the first team

Emma Abrams

Lewisburg

Pitcher | Jr.

Why chosen: Abrams had one of DeSoto County’s best arms, posting a 16-3 record and a 1.38 ERA for the Patriots. She also struck out 168 batters in 121 innings pitched.

Kate Johnson

Hernando

Pitcher | Jr.

Why chosen: Johnson posted a 15-2 record, 2.18 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 99⅓ innings pitched for the Tigers, who finished second in the MHSAA Class 7A state championship.

Jorja Wheeler

Saint Benedict

Pitcher | Jr.

Why chosen: Wheeler led the Eagles to the Division II-AA state tournament with an 18-6 record, 1.31 ERA and 277 strikeouts in 164⅔ innings pitched. At the plate, she batted .339 with 19 RBIs.

Macie Dever-Boaz

Northern point

Catcher | Sun.

Why chosen: Dever Boaz showed both power and speed, hitting .544 with 14 home runs and 37 RBIs. She also scored 51 runs and had 36 stolen bases.

Brooke Harrison

Tipton-Rosemark Academy

Infielder | Sr.

Why chosen: Harrison hit .422 with 50 runs scored and 24 stolen bases.

Adin Shelton

Bright

Infielder | Sr.

Why chosen: Shelton, a TSCA All-State selection, hit .346 with 13 home runs and 35 RBIs for the Cardinals, who have won 23 games.

Charlee Smith

Saint Benedict

Infielder | Sr.

Why chosen: Smith excelled for the Eagles, who reached the Division II-AA state tournament, hitting .487 with two home runs, 33 RBIs and 40 runs scored.

Kaitlyn Gentry

Hernando

Outfielder | Fr.

Why chosen: En route to the MHSAA Class 7A championship series, Gentry hit .442 from the leadoff position. She also scored 43 runs, had 23 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.

Keagan Stepp

Bright

Outfielder | Sun.

Why chosen: Stepp, the Cardinals’ leadoff hitter, finished the season with a .362 batting average, three home runs, 24 RBIs and 39 runs scored.

Lea Walker

Lewisburg

Outfielder | Sr.

Why chosen: The Patriots advanced to the second round of the MHSAA Class 7A playoffs on the back of a solid performance from Walker, who batted .456 with 24 RBI, 37 runs scored and 14 stolen bases. As a pitcher, she was 7-3 with a 2.71 ERA.

Brittanie Layton

Utility | Jr.

Why chosen: Layton was super durable as a pitcher with a 17-4 record and 77 strikeouts, and as a catcher for the Tigers with her .418 batting average and 31 RBIs.
