Medal of Honor: Allied Assault open source remake gets its first beta version

The day has arrived! Medal of Honor: Allied Assault including the Spearhead and Breakthrough expansions can be easily played on modern systems, with several improvements thanks to the OpenMoHAA project.

Version v0.80.0 beta has just been announced, in which they said: “Since all the features of the original game have been implemented and stability has increased, the project is moving from alpha to beta.” – so it may finally be time to jump in.

More: “OpenMoHAA’s main goal is to ensure the future and continuity of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault on all platforms/architectures by providing new patches/features. Thanks to the ioquake3 project and the FAKK SDK, OpenMoHAA has already achieved more than half of its goal: an open-source version of MoH:AA (based on version 2.40) that is fully compatible with the original game (in terms of protocol, resources and scripts).”

See more about the GitHub project.

Running it on Linux was quite easy. I used the Heroic Launcher to download the game from GOG, then put the OpenMoHAA release files into the installed folder and launched it.
