MBC’s ‘Idol Star Athletics Championship’ is reportedly returning this year with a new sports category: golf

According to media reports on June 20 KST, MBC‘S’Idol Star Athletics Championship‘ returns this year for the first time in 2 years.

The variety show is expected to air in time for the Chuseok holiday in September, with filming set to take place sometime in August. Rumor has it that this year’s event will take place in the following sporting categories: indoor football, team relay and golf.

Meanwhile, the ‘Idol Star Athletics Championship’ has been broadcast on MBC since 2010 during South Korea’s annual Chuseok and Lunar New Year celebrations. However, the program has been embroiled in several controversies over the years, including mistreatment of the idol participants, mistreatment of fans, and frequent injuries suffered by the idols during training.
