Marketing with ‘rizz’! Viewers in hysterics after mother who owns 880-year-old B&B enlists her Gen Z daughter to write script for TikTok promo clip

Generation Z seems to have invented their own language these days, using expressions like ‘brat summer’ and ‘very demure’. Many older generations are scratching their heads at this.

When a bed and breakfast owner in the UK started promoting her business on social media, she enlisted her daughter (Generation Z) to help her with the lingo of the TikTok generation.

The owner of Fyfield Manor near Wallingford in Oxfordshire posted a promotional video on TikTok showing the history and architecture of the 880-year-old B&B.

However, the video contained an unusual twist: the script featured slang commonly used by Generation Z, defined as people born between the mid- to late-1990s and early 2010s.

The owner, wearing Y2K sunglasses, used terms like “rizz,” which refers to romantic charm or appeal, to describe the property.

The video has been viewed more than 8.5 million times in two days, with one viewer calling it “the best marketing I’ve seen in a long time.”

The video explained, “When you ask your Gen Z daughter to write the marketing script.”

The owner began the clip by highlighting the exterior of the historic bed and breakfast, saying, “Our bed and breakfast is 880 years old, with no ceiling.”

The slang term ‘no cap’ is used when someone wants to indicate that he or she is telling the truth.

The owner continued with a tour of the gardens and said, ‘Do you see the garden? It gives relaxation, it gives zen.’

The younger generation often uses the term ‘it gives’ to describe when something or someone gives off a certain energy.

She then added: ‘There’s so much rizz in the medieval dining room.’ The term rizz, internet slang for ‘romantic appeal’ or charm, was crowned Oxford Word of the Year in 2023.

According to Oxford University Press, “rizz” is defined as style, charm, or attractiveness; the ability to attract a romantic or sexual partner. Linguists believe it comes from a shortened version of the word charisma.

It can also be used as a verb, for example in sayings like ‘to rizz up’, which means to attract, seduce or seduce someone.

The owner continued: “The Georgian Panel Room understood the brief” – a term used to praise a particular something or someone.

She continued: ‘Look at how the Victorian windows let in so much light… very thoughtful, very deliberate, very restrained.’

The phrase refers to a trend reportedly sparked by a now-viral TikTok video by American content creator Jools Lebron (known on the platform as @joolieannie).

In the clip, which has been viewed nearly four million times and liked 1.5 million times, the self-proclaimed “tough diva” encourages women to dress in a way that is “modest, modest and respectful in the workplace.”

The clip has become a sensation, with Gen Z making videos saying “very subdued, very thoughtful.”

It seems there are no limits to what can be described as “modest and mindful.” Gen Z uses it to glorify activities from “sorrowing” (where people lie in bed for long periods of time and scroll through their phones) to eating chocolate cake or going for a walk.

The owner used one word to describe the bathrooms at Fyfield Manor: ‘slay’. This word is used to indicate that something has been done exceptionally well.

She ended the video with the words: ‘Whether you need to recover from a bad summer or are feeling down, this is the place for you’.

Brat girl summer refers to a trend started by singer Charli XCX that is characterized by recklessness, eccentric behavior and daring attitudes.

Brats are edgy, or as Charli XCX put it in a BBC interview: ‘Trashy. Like a pack of cigarettes and, like, a Bic lighter. And, like, a white strappy top. No bra. That’s, like, all you need.’

The term ‘menty b’ refers to a mental breakdown and is often used on social media.

The owner’s daughter, who belongs to Generation Z, added in the caption: “I can confirm she didn’t understand anything she said.”

The video has been viewed over eight million times, with viewers flocking to the comments to share their thoughts, with one saying: ‘I’m definitely going to book my next menty b’.

“Absolutely brilliant. I want to recover from my mental b immediately,” said a second.

Another said: ‘No, but this is brilliant. The juxtaposition of history and modernity. The British accent. Such good marketing.’ A fourth added: ‘The best marketing I’ve seen in a long time. Very understated.’
