Uruguay coach Marcelo Bielsa has been suspended by Copa America organisers CONMEBOL and will miss Monday’s match against the United States.

Former Leeds United boss Bielsa has been punished by South American football’s governing body for delaying Uruguay’s players taking to the field in their Group C clash with Bolivia on Thursday.

Uruguay won the match 5-0 and moved closer to a place in the quarter-finals.

The Uruguayan Football Federation (AUF) was also fined $15,000 and warned of the consequences of future violations.

Bielsa and the AUF were warned after a stoppage against Panama in their opening match, before a repeat foul against Bolivia resulted in disciplinary action.

CONMEBOL is limiting delays in starting and resuming play and has punished and fined a number of coaches and federations during the tournament being held in the US

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni and opposite number Ricardo Gareca were suspended for their final Group A match on Saturday, while Venezuelan coach Fernando Batista will miss Sunday night’s match with Jamaica.

Uruguay advances to the quarter-finals after a draw against the US national team at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on Monday evening.

The US must match or improve on Panama’s result against Bolivia if it wants to make progress.
