Marathon riders selected in ARA Australian Cycling Team for 2024 UCI Marathon World Championships

Six riders have been selected to represent the ARA Australian Cycling Team at the 2024 UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships in Snowshoe, United States.

AusCycling’s National Selection Panel today announced the riders who will compete in the Championships on September 21 and 22.

Six-time national marathon champion Brendan Johnston is making his second appearance at the World Championships after making his debut in 2022.

The Canberra athlete will be joined in the green and gold uniform by Tali Lane Welsh and Joel Green in the elite men’s race, who will also be going to their second world championship.

Lane Welsh, who finished 47th at last year’s race in Scotland, won the Otway Odyssey earlier this year, while Green, who finished in the top 10 at the AusCycling Marathon National Championships, returns to the international stage after a top 60 finish at the 2023 world championship event.

In the women’s event, national champion Izzy Flint (silver medalist) and bronze medalist Ella Bloor were selected to make their debut at the World Marathon Championships.

The team is completed by three-time national marathon champion Peta Mullens.

Despite the wealth of experience the Bendigo rider brings, this will also be her first marathon world championships.
