Manchester United star misses Liverpool match due to new injury

Manchester United are still struggling with injuries. Midfielder Mason Mount is out of action due to a new injury.

The 25-year-old was sent off at half-time in last weekend’s Premier League defeat to Brighton. The club confirmed earlier today that he will be sidelined for a number of games due to the injury.

Mount’s absence is a major setback for United, especially ahead of a crucial match against Liverpool this weekend.

The midfielder was an important starter in the first two games of the season, but his injury means manager Erik ten Hag has fewer options in midfield.

Mason Mount confirms injury setback

Mason Mount admitted in a statement on social media that the recent injury has left him frustrated after working so hard to regain fitness during pre-season.

He posted the following message:

“During the last match I had a small muscle injury.”

“I’ve had it checked and it looks like I’ll be out of action for a few games. In the run-up to and during the pre-season I’ve worked hard to get my fitness back to where it needs to be and I felt energetic, sharp and ready again.”

“I wanted you to hear directly from me how frustrated I am, and I expect you are too. I will do everything I can to get back in the best shape and help the team.”

Injury-plagued start at Manchester United

Mount left Chelsea for Manchester United last summer, but his debut season with the Red Devils was plagued by injuries.

At the start of the season he was injured, which caused him to miss six games. And just as he was starting to get back into shape, a calf injury kept him out for four months, causing him to miss 21 games. (Transfermarkt)

This latest setback adds to United’s growing list of injury concerns. The club have been battling injuries since pre-season and the loss of Mount adds to the challenges facing Ten Hag.

The Dutchman will hope to overcome his defeat to Brighton this weekend by beating United’s great rivals Liverpool.
