Manchester United prepare for further negotiations over midfielder’s contract

Manchester United are reportedly preparing for further negotiations over a new contract for Kobbie Mainoo, who is seen as a key part of the club’s present and future.

The Red Devils have found a real gem in Mainoo. After coming through the club’s youth academy, he played more and more in the first team last season. He eventually also earned a well-deserved place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2024 European Championship.

Mainoo has continued to feature regularly for Man Utd this season and now Fabrizio Romano has posted on YouTube about the club’s plans to step up their efforts to sign the 19-year-old to a new contract.

Watch the details below, with Romano saying that United don’t necessarily see this as something that needs to happen urgently, although they want to make sure they offer him a significant contract to demonstrate his value to Erik ten Hag’s team…

Mainoo contract talks crucial for Manchester United

Mainoo can undoubtedly enjoy a long and successful career at Old Trafford, so MUFC fans will be hoping the club can make that happen soon, in case there is a risk of other top clubs chasing the England international.

United have struggled over the past decade, since the departure of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson. In theory, that could leave them vulnerable if more successful teams in the Premier League or Europe showed interest in someone of Mainoo’s calibre.

The youngster scored for United in last season’s FA Cup final win over Manchester City and will undoubtedly want to continue winning, but it is not certain he will do so regularly at his current club.

From United’s perspective, of course, keeping someone like Mainoo is just a way to return to the top. The teenager is one of a number of promising players now breaking through, along with Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund, Leny Yoro and Alejandro Garnacho.
