Manager claims he never valued £35m Leeds United player

Sam Allardyce had a terrible spell at Leeds United in 2022/23.

The Whites were struggling in the Premier League and called in relegation specialist Allardyce to rescue the club.

With only four games left in the season, the manager was given the responsibility to save the club.

Allardyce failed to save them and they have been trying to return to the Premier League ever since.

The controversial manager has not used a single player during his time at Elland Road, causing some surprise.

Georginio Rutter joined Leeds for £35million, but Allardyce completely dropped the attacker and didn’t use him at all.

The manager has now revealed on the Under the Cosh Podcast why he decided not to use the Frenchman.

“I’d like to know about Rutter. Why didn’t you play Rutter?” Allardyce was asked.

“He wasn’t good enough,” said Allardyce.

“That’s the answer, but he just went to Brighton for £40m,” The host responded.

“I just couldn’t believe they paid that much money for him. He was too young in those circumstances. Coming in so young and playing in a struggling team in the Premier League was a lot to ask,” said Allardyce.

Rutter was in top form for the Whites last season and that earned him an expensive transfer to Brighton.

It remains to be seen how the player will perform in the Premier League and whether Allardcye’s opinion of the player is correct or incorrect.

Allardyce is an experienced manager and his judgement of players is beyond question.

But Rutter now has the perfect opportunity to prove his former manager wrong.
