Police suspect Sam Oliver Layton was under the influence of drink or drugs when he stole a beach vehicle from Alexandra Headland beach on Friday, June 28.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said officers were called to the beach at around 1pm to reports of a 36-year-old man driving dangerously on the shoreline near beachgoers.

The spokeswoman claimed the Fortitude Valley man was held by members of the public after Layton crashed and damaged the buggy.

Layton’s matters were briefly discussed in Maroochydore District Court on Monday, where duty solicitor Michael Robinson requested an extended adjournment so the Fortitude Valley man’s legal aid application could be processed.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear in court again on July 17.

Instagram videos of Layton’s arrest were filled with comments on Sh-t Maroochydore’s page over the weekend.

“What is happening to our community,” one user wrote.

“Flaming galas,” wrote another.

“You can’t park there, buddy.”
