Man United’s Omar Berrada sets huge target for Erik ten Hag

Man United’s new CEO Omar Berrada has admitted the Premier League club’s ultimate goal is to return to the top flight of European football under the new leadership structure at Old Trafford.

There have been a lot of changes in Manchester in recent months, starting with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS becoming part-owners of the Red Devils alongside the Glazer family.

This was followed by the arrival of a new CEO in Berrada, a new Sporting Director in Dan Ashworth and a new Technical Director in Jason Wilcox. These men have been tasked with taking United back to the pinnacle of the sport and that is the aim, Berrada admits.

“We want to return the club to the pinnacle of European football,” said Man United CEO Fabrizio Romano. “We have strengthened our men’s first team with five great players and put in place a new football leadership structure to better support our manager, Erik ten Hag.”

It is a huge task for the Manchester club and Ten Hag, especially as the Dutch coach may not be at Old Trafford for long if current results continue.

Is Erik ten Hag the right man to lead Man United back to the top?

Will Manchester United remain loyal to Erik ten Hag in the long run?

Although Berrada supported Ten Hag’s words, the Man United board showed their opinion of the current manager this summer. They actively searched for a new first-team manager, but were unable to find a suitable candidate.

That is the only reason why Ten Hag is still in charge at Old Trafford. The Manchester club’s poor start to the current season has put the Dutch manager under immediate pressure.

It is hard to imagine United staying loyal to the former Ajax manager in the long term, as he is unlikely to be the man to take them back to the top of European football. That may be the goal the English giants have set themselves, but it is likely to be achieved under a different manager at some point in the future.
