Man United’s bizarre striker decision

Manchester United fans will be surprised by their club’s concerns over the transfer of Victor Osimhen when he was still at Napoli.

The Nigerian international developed into one of Europe’s best strikers during his time at the Naples club. However, according to ESPN, Man Utd were not certain of the deal as he played in Serie A, where Romelu Lukaku also impressed after previously flopping at Old Trafford.

However, that hasn’t stopped United from signing Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee in place of Osimhen over the past two summers, despite both players also coming from Serie A and despite their goalscoring output being less impressive than the Napoli striker, who is now on loan at Galatasaray.

ESPN also noted that there was some concern at United about Osimhen’s ability to keep the ball, but overall this seems like very poor decision-making by the Old Trafford selection department.

Osimhen has been under the watchful eye of other top clubs for some time, sources recently revealed CaughtOffside that Chelsea are still interested in the 25-year-old.

Meanwhile, United are still struggling to score as Zirkzee and Hojlund have yet to really get going. Perhaps that’s not surprising, as they are both young players without much experience at the top level.

Osimhen would undoubtedly have been better, although of course there is no guarantee that players will perform at the same level if they move to another competition.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Osimhen at Galatasaray in the coming months. We can imagine that he will not stay there for long.

It could be that MUFC will simply watch as Osimhen joins one of their rivals and thereby casts them in a bad light, given their past concerns about him.
