Man United star fined for pleading guilty after running afoul of law

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been fined £1,028 for a speeding offence, according to The Sun.

The 31-year-old was caught driving his black Land Rover at 70mph in a 60mph zone on the A616 near Sheffield on March 7.

Maguire pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and therefore did not have to appear in court.

His sentence includes a £670 fine, three penalty points on his driving licence, a £268 victim surcharge and £90 court costs.

The incident came just two days before he missed United’s 2-0 Premier League win over Everton.

The defender is currently having a difficult season at Old Trafford after losing his starting place.

Manager Erik ten Hag has given his preference to new signing Matthijs de Ligt to start alongside Lisandro Martinez in the heart of Man United’s defence this season.

The player has endured a difficult time at Old Trafford since his record-breaking run at the club.

Man United defender has previous run-ins with the law

It had looked like the England international would leave the Red Devils on several occasions in the past, but his determination and perseverance ensured that he stayed at the club and fought for his place.

This is not the first time Maguire has found himself in trouble with the law, with the centre-back reportedly involved in a troublesome episode in Greece while on holiday.

According to The Guardian, the Man United defender was found guilty of assault on police officers, resisting arrest and attempted bribery.

Off-field activities have not helped Maguire, but he is not the only Man United star to be involved in controversy.

Marcus Rashford and Antony have both struggled in recent seasons due to their off-field activities.

On the pitch, Maguire now wants to move on from this episode and focus on contributing to United’s campaign, as they look to improve after a disappointing Europa League draw against FC Twente.
