Man United not considering Ivan Toney transfer until deadline

According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United are currently not considering a transfer for Ivan Toney until the deadline.

United began the season with a 1-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford on Friday and have been busy in the transfer market, with more activity planned before the deadline.

The Red Devils have signed Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt and are in talks about Manuel Ugarte, midfielder at Paris Saint Germain.

United set to complete late Toney transfer

Despite Zirkzee’s arrival, United have been linked with a move for Toney, who was left out of Brentford’s squad for Sunday’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

However, Plettenberg has provided an update on United’s interest, stating that the Old Trafford club are not considering a move for the 28-year-old until the deadline.

He went to X.com and said:

“It has been said again that Manchester United are not currently considering signing Ivan #Toney until Deadline Day! No approach planned yet. Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee should play regularly.

“#MUFC 28-year-old striker from Brentford, one to watch over the next 13 days with many enquiries and strong interest from Saudi Arabia.”

Toney has one year left on his contract and is expected to leave this summer, but nothing has happened yet. There has been significant interest from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli, who reportedly had a £35m offer rejected last week.

It is certainly a surprise that potential buyers have not tried hard to sign Toney at this late stage in the transfer window. They may well wait, knowing that if they wait a little longer, there is a chance of a discount on the deal.

United currently have Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund as strikers, while Marcus Rashford can also play centrally, so it is unclear how much they need Toney. However, if they were to make a move, he would be a good option and could offer them something different.
