Man United are working to ensure two players are available in time for the season opener at Fulham

Manchester United are hoping to complete the signings of two key players in time for the Premier League season opener.

The Red Devils will kick off the 2024-25 season with a home game against Fulham on Friday evening.

Erik Ten Hag wants to improve on last season’s disappointing eighth place and therefore wants to strengthen a number of positions.

The 20-times champions acted quickly in the market to sign a new centre-back – Leny Yoro from Lille – and a new striker – Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.

Although United beat Real Madrid to the signing of Yoro, they were forced to replace the talented defender after he injured his foot in a pre-season friendly against Arsenal, which kept him out for three months.

The player who will replace the injured Yoro is Matthijs De Ligt from Bayern Munich.

Matthijs De Ligt is on the verge of leaving for Manchester United.

With their £38.5million bid for the Dutch centre-back having been accepted, De Ligt, 25, is set to be unveiled as United’s third summer signing. Bayern team-mate Noussair Mazraoui, who is Ten Hag’s choice to replace West Ham-bound Aaron Wan-Bissaka, will join the 25-year-old.

And according to a recent report from a leading transfer expert and CaughtOffside columnist Fabrizio Romano, the pair have now arrived at Carrington, the club’s training complex, to undergo their medical tests.

Interestingly, United are keen to have the defensive duo ready and available in time for their opening game of the season against Marco Silva’s Cottagers.

The United-Fulham match kicks off at 8pm (UK time) on Friday and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
