Man detained for knife attack during fight

A man who stabbed his victim with a kitchen knife and fled on a bus has been jailed for eight and a half years.

Wayne Bryson, 31, was involved in a fight with another man in Hawthorne Street in Easington, County Durham, in February.

The fight spilled into the street, where his victim suffered life-threatening stab wounds to his chest and back.

Bryson was found guilty at Durham Crown Court of wounding with intent and possessing a knife in a public place.

Durham Police said he was arrested after fleeing the attack on a bus to Peterlee and then throwing the knife in a bus station bin.

Bryson, of no fixed abode, was sentenced on Monday.

Det Sergeant Anthony Wild said the force remains committed to “reducing gun violence in our area”.
