Man convicted in Grand Rapids crash that killed Good Samaritan

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A drunk driver who crashed into a crash scene in southeast Grand Rapids in June 2023 was sentenced to prison for the death of a Good Samaritan who stopped to help.

Willie Guydon, 75, was under the influence of cocaine when he burst into the scene of an earlier collision at 28th Street and Madison Avenue.

Chelsea Anne Belden witnessed the first crash and stopped to help, court records show.

Guydon’s vehicle struck previously crashed vehicles, causing one to strike Belden. The 32-year-old mother died from her injuries.

Guydon pleaded no contest to operating while intoxicated causing death. He apologized in court last week before being sent to prison for a term of six to 22.5 years.
