Man City hearing: Premier League 115 charges case begins

The hearing into the 115 charges against Manchester City for alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules begins on Monday.

In February 2023, the city was sued and referred to an independent commission after a four-year investigation.

It is alleged that the city violated financial rules between 2009 and 2018.

The city strongly denies all allegations and says its case is supported by a “comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence.”

The Premier League alleges City breached rules requiring the club to provide “accurate financial information which gives a true and fair view of the club’s financial position”.

This information related to the club’s income, including sponsorship income and operating costs.

The Premier League champions have also been accused of failing to cooperate.

When the Premier League investigation began, City said the allegations were “completely false” and that the allegations originally published in German newspaper Der Spiegel arose from “illegal hacking and an out-of-context publication of City emails”.

City have won eight league titles, several cups and the Champions League since being taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008.

“It starts soon and hopefully it will be over soon,” City manager Pep Guardiola said on Friday. “I’m looking forward to the decision.

“I’m glad it starts on Monday. I know there will be more rumors, new specialists about the punishments. We’ll see. I know what people are looking forward to, what they expect, I know what I’ve been reading for many, many years.

“Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. So we’ll see.”
