Man City enter talks with Rodri over new deal amid interest from Real Madrid

Man City are in talks with Rodri over a new contract as the Premier League club are keen to keep the midfielder at the Etihad Stadium amid interest from Real Madrid.

That is according to Football Insider, which reports that the La Liga champions are one of the clubs closely monitoring the situation of the 28-year-old player at the Manchester club. The player has a contract until 2027 at the Etihad Stadium.

When Rodri played for Spain at Euro 2024 this summer, he admitted that some Real Madrid players in the Spanish squad had launched a charm offensive to convince him to return to his hometown for the tournament.

This could be a concern for Man City and that is why the English giants want certainty by signing Rodri on a new contract.

This update on the ongoing talks comes after The Mirror reported that City are preparing to offer Rodri a new contract, doubling his salary.

The Spaniard currently earns £220,000-a-week. If he were to double that amount, the 28-year-old would become the Manchester club’s highest-paid star, surpassing top earners Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne, showing just how much value is placed on the midfielder.

Rodri is Man City’s most important player

Rodri is regarded by many as the best number six in the world and the 28-year-old has been crucial to Man City’s success in recent years. That success can be summed up in one incredible statistic.

The Spaniard was unbeaten for 74 games for the Premier League champions until losing the FA Cup final to Manchester United at the end of last season.

Pep Guardiola’s side are noticeably weaker without the Euro 2024 winner, although they played well against Chelsea last weekend without the Spanish star. However, the Premier League champions want to keep the player for years to come and hope to agree a new deal soon.
