Man charged over Surfers Paradise stabbing

A man has been charged over an alleged stabbing in Surfers Paradise that left a man seriously injured.

According to police, the alleged victim and a friend were approached by a man and a woman outside a barbershop on Orchid Ave around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

A scuffle ensued before another man jumped out of a nearby car and reportedly stabbed a 20-year-old Palm Beach man in the back.

He was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital, while the three individuals left the scene of the crash in a black Holden Commodore before police arrived.

The car was later found abandoned on Precision Drive in Molenindar, having hit a parked vehicle. Three people were arrested a short time later.

The victim is still in stable condition in hospital

“I understand he may need further surgery today, so (a) very serious injury,” Superintendent Mark Mooney told the ABC.

A 21-year-old man from Victoria has now been charged with causing a nuisance and acts intended to disturb the peace.

He was refused bail to appear in Southport District Court on Monday.

There is a second person on the run, but police are confident they can find him or her.

“The investigation will continue today to locate this person. We have recently been able to identify them, so we are just making enquiries now to locate them.

“We do not believe there are any concerns for the community. We believe this individual is not from the Gold Coast.”
