Man arrested for hitting the window of the car of a woman who was feeding the homeless with a knife

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – A man is facing three charges for allegedly banging on a car window in an attempt to attack the woman inside the vehicle, authorities said.

Shreveport Police officers responded just after 10 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 14) to a report of an armed person at Walmart in the 1100 block of Shreveport-Barksdale Highway. When they arrived, they learned the suspect was walking in the 1200 block of Shreveport-Barksdale Highway.

According to Shreveport Police, officers in the area quickly located Harley Mains and safely detained him without incident.

“Further investigation revealed that the victim, a woman who was feeding homeless people in the Walmart parking lot, was aggressively approached by the suspect, who was reportedly angry after waking up,” said police Cmdr. said Chris Bordelon. “Officers recovered the knife used in the incident and were able to interview witnesses who corroborated the victim’s story. Fortunately, no one was injured.”

Mains has been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated property damage and possession of marijuana.

“The Shreveport Police Department reminds citizens interested in helping those in need that there are established local organizations, such as Providence House and area food banks, that are prepared to safely assist vulnerable individuals,” Bordelon said. “Donations to these organizations provide a safe and organized way to support our community without compromising personal safety.”
