Man arrested after assaulting person with tree branch and possessing firearm in Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, CT (WFSB) – A man was arrested after assaulting a person
with a tree branch and possession of a firearm in Bridgeport Saturday.

Officials say units responded to the area around Maplewood Avenue for a report of an assault with a dangerous weapon.

They found a victim at the scene suffering from a cut to the forehead after being attacked with a tree branch. They were transported to hospital for examination.

Officers then took the suspect, 56-year-old Oscar Espejo-Gonzalez, into custody. He was heavily intoxicated and a firearm was recovered at the scene.

He is charged with second-degree breach of peace, illegal modification of a firearm, illegal carrying of a firearm under the influence of drugs/alcohol, first-degree menacing, second-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangerment.

He is being held on a $75,000 bond.
