Man accused of strangling his wife unconscious

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – A Jonesboro man is facing an assault charge after police say he choked his wife until she lost consciousness and control of her bodily functions.

Craighead County District Court Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause Friday to charge 45-year-old David Shook with aggravated assault on a family or household member, a class D felony.

According to court documents, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a home on Thorn Street on Nov. 20.

The victim told officers that Shook “became irate” around 9 p.m. on November 19.

She said he “held her down and strangled her until she became unconscious and relieved herself of her bodily functions.”

The victim said Shook left after the alleged attack.

The affidavit noted that the woman had marks on the right side of her face and a cut behind her left ear, as well as bruises on her arms and legs.

On November 21, Shook agreed to a Mirandized interview at the police station.

Detective Madison Dobbs noted in court documents that Shook “admitted to causing injury to his wife and strangling her.”

Shook is being held in lieu of $35,000 cash bail pending a Jan. 24 court appearance.

After noting that Shook was on parole with a “very long history” of violence, Fowler also issued a restraining order.
