Major tournament returns to Pitt Meadows golf course

Summer golf is in full swing at Pitt Meadows, which means that the local courses will be hosting a variety of tournaments, both large and small, over the next few weeks.

One of the biggest events takes place next weekend when Meadows Gardens Golf Club prepares to host the fourth annual Meadows Gardens Open presented by Lordco Auto Parts.

Curtis Baldwin, director of golf and sales at Meadows Gardens, called the tournament the largest two-day golf event in the province, with both amateurs and professionals participating.

“We’re going to see some of the most promising players here on July 13 and 14,” Baldwin said. “Kevin Stinson, who just played in the RBC Canadian Open on the PGA Tour, will be headlining the professional event, with some other top local talent also competing.”

The tournament features 48 professionals and 160 amateurs, with prizes worth more than $100,000, including a brand new truck.

“We invite spectators to come and watch some great golf. There are grandstands set up on the 15th green and a beer garden nearby where you can enjoy a bite to eat and a drink,” Baldwin said.

The Meadows Gardens Open, presented by Lordco Auto Parts Ltd., takes place on July 13-14, while Meadows Gardens Golf Club hosts part of the BC Summer Games the following week.
