Luton 1 – 2 QPR

QPR shocked Luton Town with a blistering second half to secure their first league win of the season with a 2-1 victory at Kenilworth Road.

After knocking the Hatters out of the Carabao Cup on penalties in midweek, the R’s recorded two wins in a matter of days thanks to goals from Nicolas Madsen and Michael Frey.

An own goal from Jimmy Dunne gave Luton the lead in the 18th minute, but Rob Edwards’ side have now taken just one point from four games since being relegated to the Sky Bet Championship.

The visitors started well, Frey had an eye for the unmarked Karamoko Dembele, but his shot went wide.

Luton took the lead when a corner went through to Shandon Baptiste. His cross was met by Mark McGuinness, whose header was saved by Paul Nardi, but the rebound hit team-mate Dunne and bounced into the net.

Luton almost had a second chance but Elijah Adebayo just couldn’t reach Alfie Doughty’s low ball, while Jordan Clark’s shot from the edge of the box was too close to Nardi.

Rangers saw some bright spots in the closing stages of the first 45 minutes, with a shot from Frey deflected and an effort from Alfie Lloyd rebounding off a home defender.

An own goal from Dunne gave Luton the lead

Town looked the most promising at the start of the second half. Baptiste’s volley was deflected off a defender and he then picked out Adebayo with a great pass. The forward had an easy pass but Nardi blocked the ball.

Luton were made to pay for not taking their chances as Rangers scored a double inside three minutes.

Frey scored the winning goal

First, a long ball from Steve Cook was misjudged by McGuinness, allowing Frey to sneak inside and overpower the defender, before passing the ball to Madense, who tapped it in.

Things got worse for Luton on 62 minutes when Kenneth Paal delivered a deep cross and Frey, left completely unmarked, volleyed past Thomas Kaminski.

The home side tried to fight back, but Baptiste found Adebayo in the penalty area. Again, he could not get past Nardi, as the keeper tipped his shot away.

Dembele wasted a real chance to decide the outcome by firing a free-kick from a good position in the stands behind the goal, while Kaminski turned in a free header from Dunne with two minutes left.

Luton should have salvaged a point in injury time but Nardi made an excellent save from Carlton Morris’ shot and substitute Joe Taylor had a close-range view.
