LR’s Brown Named Scholar-Athlete of the Year

The Lenoir-Rhyne Track & Field team not only stood out on the track this season, but in the classroom as well. Star sprinter Alexis Brown was named USTFCCCA Indoor Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while the Bears had 11 athletes named to the All-Academic Teams. In addition to the individual honors, both the Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Teams were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams.

Alexis Brown, who took home the SAC Female Athlete of the Year award this year, maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.4048 throughout the year. During that time, she won the indoor 60m and 200m national titles. In addition to her indoor success, Brown was also an outdoor national champion in the 100m and 4x100m, and qualified for the Olympic Trial semifinals in the 100m.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, an athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale, have completed a minimum of 24 semester hours/36 quarter hours through the end of the competitive semester at the institution, and have earned an automatic or provisional qualifying grade (individual or relay event) for the indoor or outdoor season.
