Louis Rees-Zammit: NFL prospect misses Chiefs practice with injury

Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub confirmed the back injury. He told reporters his players needed to work on their kick returns, given the new rules and fouls in their opener against the Jaguars. That’s one of the key roles Rees-Zammit is expected to fill.

“We just need to get more representatives and make sure the rules are clear,” Toub said.

“Of course we made a mistake in the game. It cost us something in the end, but it’s a great learning experience for us.

“(They will be) the same guys you saw. So I still want to see other guys. I want to see Rees (Louis Rees-Zammit), but he didn’t train today. He might not be available. We’ll see, but I still want… there are a lot of guys I want to see. We have time to do that.”

Rees-Zammit played running back, kicker and kick returner in Saturday’s 26-13 loss at EverBank Stadium in Florida. He was also part of the punt coverage team.

He finished with two carries for one yard, one reception for three yards and one tackle on special teams.

The current NFL champions, the Chiefs, will announce their roster on August 27, ahead of their season opener against the Baltimore Ravens on September 6.
