Lorenzo-Vera, quits for mental health reasons

Like many athletes in recent years and some renowned golfers, Basque Mike Lorenzo-Vera announced that he is temporarily retiring from competition, citing his mental health. In a post on his Instagram account, French DP World Tour player Mike Lorenzo-Vera announced that he would take a break until the end of the season and that he would not be seen in competition again before 2025.

Mike Lorenzo-Vera, statements

“Due to my mental health, I will not be able to continue in 2024. I would like to thank my closest entourage who raised the alarm and I would like to thank the medical team of the DP World Tour for their responsiveness and presence.

“I will come back stronger in 2025 and that’s great! I wish you a very good game of golf and a great end to your holiday!” wrote the player who will celebrate his 40th birthday next January. At the end of 2019, he finished 19th in the Race to Dubai, but he only made 6 cuts in the 14 tournaments he participated in in 2024, with a top 10 in Belgium as his best result.

The Rules of Golf are a set of rules and standard procedures by which the sport of golf is played. They are written and administered jointly by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the governing body of golf worldwide, except in the United States and Mexico, which are governed by the United States Golf Association.

An expert committee, made up of members from the R&A and the USGA, oversees and refines the Rules every four years. The most recent revision went into effect on January 1, 2016. Changes to the Rules of Golf generally fall into two main categories: changes that improve understanding of the Rules and changes that reduce penalties in certain cases to ensure balance.

The rule book, entitled “The Rules of Golf,” is published regularly and also contains rules governing amateur status. In Italy, the Federgolf is responsible for supervising competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R&A, checking that these rules are observed by clubs, associations and their members, and administering the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
