Liverpool want to sign a player with a playing style that both Man City and Arsenal have

Liverpool are yet to sign a new player during the current transfer window and with a week to go, the Reds have identified two areas they want to strengthen.

Arne Slot took over a very strong selection from his predecessor Jürgen Klopp and it was no easy task to make that selection even better.

The Merseyside club saw Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi as a player who could do just that, but the search for the Spaniard yielded no results as the midfielder decided to stay in La Liga for another season.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are still keen to add a number six to their squad before the summer transfer window closes, while Slot is also on the lookout for a left-footed centre-back who can replace Virgil van Dijk and also play at left-back.

This is a role we have seen at both Man City and Arsenal, with Pep Guardiola using Josko Gvardiol in this manner, while Mikel Arteta recently signed Riccardo Calafiori for the same task.

While Liverpool are keen to unveil a player profile this week, the report suggests the Reds are prepared to wait until January or even next summer before the right player comes along.

Liverpool’s Arne Slot not under pressure to sign players

Slot is in a fortunate position at Liverpool, with the Dutch coach under no pressure to sign a player this week due to the strength of his squad. While the 45-year-old would like to add another centre-back and defensive midfielder, the Merseyside club could wait until the right man comes along.

The Première League giants have made a perfect start to the season with two wins and two clean sheets, and Slot and his team are now scheduled to travel to Old Trafford.

It will be interesting to see if the Dutch coach has a new player in his squad by then, as the Reds consider whether to make a signing this week.
