Liverpool Transfer News Today: Salah INTERESTED, DEFENSIVE TARGETS IDENTIFIED

Here’s all the latest Liverpool transfer news from today (Monday 9th September). There’s interest in Mohamed Salah and a contract update, Liverpool are looking to strengthen their defence and are eyeing up multiple midfield options.

Salah wanted by two European giants

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has just one year left on his contract at Anfield, so it’s no surprise that he’s also attracting interest elsewhere.

The Reds winger signed a three-year contract extension in the summer of 2022, but that deal expires in June 2025. There is no clear indication yet whether he will stay or leave.

The star was the subject of significant interest from Saudi Arabia last summer when Al-Ittihad saw a high-dollar bid rejected. But Salah is reportedly wary of moving to the Middle East after noticing the declining reputation of his former Anfield team-mate Sadio Mane since leaving for Saudi Arabia.

There is also interest in Salah from Europe. The Catalan newspaper El Nacional reports that both Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have shown interest and are prepared to make him an offer.

PSG see Salah as the perfect addition to their attack after losing Kylian Mbappe this summer, while Juve are looking for a player with experience and quality to lead their new project under Thiago Motta.

Liverpool get two defenders

The transfer window has only just closed, but Liverpool may already be looking to strengthen their defence.

That may seem surprising given that the Reds have won their first three games of the Premier League season without conceding a single goal and are joint top of the table as a result.

The Reds were linked with several defenders last summer and there are now rumours that manager Arne Slot is still on the hunt for two of them.

The first is Juventus defender Gleison Bremer. Liverpool are reportedly pursuing the Brazil international this summer, with reports suggesting he would cost more than the £36m required to lure Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig in 2021.

The second player included in the selection by Fichajes is Goncalo Inacio from Portuguese club Sporting.

Rodri transfer could derail Liverpool’s plans

Liverpool have been heavily linked with the arrival of a defensive midfielder this summer as the team look to strengthen the spine of the squad.

The Anfield club have been trying to strengthen their midfield since Fabinho left for Saudi Arabia a year ago, but have failed to complete deals for their key players.

According to the Daily Mail, the Reds are now considering signing England international Adam Wharton.

Manchester City are also said to be interested and interest could increase significantly if they lose fellow defensive midfielder Rodri to Real Madrid.

The Spaniard has been crucial to City’s success in recent seasons, scoring the winning goal in last year’s Champions League final against Inter in Istanbul to secure the treble.

Despite Ryan Gravenberch’s impressive start to the season, Liverpool continue to be linked with signings for a holding midfield role.

Fabrizio Romano told The Here We Go Podcast that Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in signing Tchouameni in the summer of 2025.

However, the renowned transfer guru immediately put a stop to the transfer deal and revealed that Real Madrid and their manager Carlo Ancelotti have no intention of letting the 24-year-old leave the club.

“Real Madrid’s intention is to keep Aurelien Tchouameni as a key player for their project for the present and the future. They are in love with Tchouameni, with the player, with the professional and how he adapted to the central defensive position was really appreciated by the Real Madrid coaching staff.”

That’s according to a new report from Football Insider, which claims the Reds’ transfer hierarchy are treating a contract extension as the best option amid concerns over who could replace the Egyptian when his contract expires next summer.

Salah, 32, last extended his contract in 2022, with his current deal running until 2025. However, the goalscorer has publicly stated in recent weeks that he considers this his final season at Anfield.

That was interpreted by some as an attempt to pressure the club into offering a new deal, but to date the parties have not reached an agreement.

The superstar, who earns £350,000-a-week, was the subject of significant interest from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023, but Liverpool decided not to accept the substantial £150m bid.
