Liverpool star worth £40-45m informs club of decision on his future

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

The 27-year-old could move in search of regular playing time. He has been linked with clubs such as Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Fulham. A report from Football Insider claims the player has now told Liverpool he wants to leave if their asking price is met.

Liverpool value the defender at £40-45 million and it will be interesting to see if any club is willing to pay for him. Gomez is undoubtedly one of the best defenders in the league and he has proven himself to be a reliable player for Liverpool. Even though he is not a regular starter for them, he has been very useful to the club in recent years.

In addition to his defensive qualities, he is versatile enough to play as a fullback and defensive midfielder. There is no doubt that he would improve most teams in the country. However, the asking price seems quite high and his suitors hope to sign him for a more reasonable price. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

Liverpool must keep Joe Gomez

Liverpool already lack depth in their defence, especially after the departure of Joel Matip. They may not want to weaken their squad further by letting Gomez leave this summer. Liverpool will need to bring in a few centre-backs before they can sanction the England international’s departure.

That said, Gomez needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and it is unlikely he will be on the bench at Liverpool. It remains to be seen whether he decides to force a move in the coming weeks.
