Liverpool star offered to Bayern Munich before move to Anfield, says transfer expert

According to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool’s new signing Federico Chiesa was also an option for Bayern Munich earlier this summer.

The Italian international looks like an interesting addition to Arne Slot’s squad for this season. However, it seems that Bayern, despite also valuing the player, ultimately decided to prioritize a different kind of winger: Michael Olise, who eventually arrived from Crystal Palace.

Romano discussed this saga when he spoke exclusively with CaughtOffside for his latest column in the Daily Briefing, in which he revealed another big opportunity for Chiesa this summer before eventually sealing his belated move to Anfield.

Responding to reports that Chiesa had been rejected by Bayern, Romano said: “Yes, Bayern were offered this opportunity in June, but their main target was always a different type of player like Olise – a different player with different skills.

“They valued Chiesa, but they weren’t looking for that kind of player.”

Chiesa Transfer: Will He Be a Success for Liverpool?

Some LFC fans may be concerned that they have signed a player for such a low price, who apparently was not a priority for other big names in Europe.

There is no doubt that Chiesa showed a lot of quality during his time at Juventus, but you can imagine that his fitness was a concern for potential buyers.

Ultimately, Liverpool may have taken a gamble with the 26-year-old, but they may ultimately decide it was worth it, as it was a cheap deal for someone who could potentially strengthen the squad rather than starting every week.

Slot already has Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota as options for the wide forwards, so Chiesa has a lot of competition to get a starting spot. It will be interesting to see if he succeeds.
