Liverpool, Newcastle and Atletico are among SIX battling for £53m signing Man City star sent packing by Gundogan

Pep Guardiola is prepared to sell a Manchester City player after Ilkay Gundogan re-signed. Liverpool, Newcastle and Atletico Madrid are reportedly among the six clubs considering a move.

Gundogan signed for a second term at Manchester City last Friday. The stylish German, 33, initially left Man City when he joined Barcelona as a free agent in the summer of 2023.

However, Barça gave the green light for Gündogan’s departure after just one season, much to Pep Guardiola’s delight.

The Spanish manager did not hesitate and gave his club the task to bring Gundogan back. Barcelona wanted to sell players as soon as possible and gave Gundogan the chance to leave on a free transfer.

Gundogan made his re-debut for City in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Ipswich Town, coming on as a 71st-minute substitute.

His presence in the team, according to the Daily Starhas now made a late window exit for Matheus Nunes almost inevitable.

Guardiola is reportedly willing to sell the 25-year-old Portugal international as Nunes struggles to impress since joining from Wolves for £53million last summer.

The report stated that a loan exit with an option to buy appears the most likely outcome if Nunes does indeed leave before the August 30 deadline. According to the report, Man City are reportedly looking to set the option at around £40m.

Premier League quintet plus Atletico Madrid all floating

Interest in Nunes is believed to be widespread, with the Daily Star Newcastle, Everton and West Ham are considering a transfer.

Furthermore, it is claimed that Liverpool and Chelsea have been looking at a move earlier this transfer window and that now that they hear Nunes is now available, they could make a move very quickly.

The Reds are known to have long held an interest in Nunes, having considered signing the midfielder when he was still at Sporting CP.

However, the Premier League quintet could be outshone by Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

A next update by the Athletics David Ornstein revealed that Atleti are ‘exploring the potential loan move of Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes.’

Ornstein confirmed that City have not received any concrete bids from any club. But given that Nunes’ future only really became a hot topic after Gundogan re-signed late last week, that may not come as a surprise for now.

But with Gundogan returning and Nunes even lower down the pecking order, an early departure is a real possibility.
