Liverpool legend Alan Hansen enjoys golf as recovery continues

Liverpool legend Alan Hansen is recovering rapidly from a serious illness. News of his illness on June 9 prompted an outpouring of well-wishes from fans and other football lovers. After spending two weeks in hospital, Hansen was finally discharged and is now on the road to recovery. His family expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support they have received during this difficult time.

Three weeks later, Hansen was spotted indulging in his second favourite sport, golf. He was seen at his local club, Hillside, on Merseyside, looking cheerful and enjoying himself. This positive development is a testament to his improving health and determination. Those who know him well are not surprised by his eagerness to get back on the fairways, as sport has always been an integral part of his life.

Hansen’s early sporting prowess extended beyond football. Growing up in Sauchie, Scotland, he excelled in a variety of sports including squash, volleyball and golf. In fact, he even considered pursuing a professional career in golf when he turned 16 with an impressive handicap of two. However, fate intervened and he eventually chose to sign for his brother’s club, Partick Thistle, in Glasgow.

Hansen’s journey then took him to Liverpool in 1977, where he would spend 13 remarkable years. During this time, he established himself as one of the best defenders in the club’s history, winning an impressive 16 major trophies. His impressive haul includes three European Cups and eight league titles. Hansen’s dedication to the team saw him make 620 appearances for the Reds, captaining 195 of them.

After retiring from professional football, Hansen made the transition to a successful career as a football analyst for the BBC. For 22 years he was a regular face on Match of the Day television. His insights and analysis made him a household name and cemented his status as a Liverpool legend.

At 69, Hansen’s recent illness served as a reminder of his mortality. However, his positive recovery has brought hope and relief to his fans around the world.
