Liverpool could consider late move for Chelsea ace’s first-team signing

Liverpool’s transfer market could take a huge turn in the coming days.

It depends on whether Joe Gomez stays at the club or leaves, as the player is looking for a new challenge.

Gomez is open to leaving the club and insisted earlier this summer that he would move to Newcastle United, with Anthony Gordon reportedly leaving for Anfield.

Sepp van den Berg has left the Reds to join Brentford. If Gomez also leaves the club, the Merseyside club would be in the market to sign a new centre-back.

According to GiveMeSport, Liverpool have identified three defenders for the central defensive position, but everything depends on Gomez’s future.

Should he leave, they have Chelsea star Levi Colwill, Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie and RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan on their list as options for the central defensive position.

Arne Slot would need an extra defender, as the Reds would lose two central defenders and that would be at the expense of their depth at the back.

Gomez was not included in Liverpool’s matchday squad for the 2-0 win over Ipswich Town in the opening game of the season.

Liverpool are interested in a transfer for Chelsea defender Levi Colwill.

The England defender spent the summer with the Three Lions at the 2024 European Championship, but did not make a single appearance for Gareth Southgate’s side.

He is currently Liverpool’s longest-serving player and now he wants a new challenge away from Anfield, which would require the Reds to enter the transfer market.

Chelsea not considering selling Levi Colwill to Liverpool

However, it would be too late for the Reds to sign Colwill from Chelsea as the Blues would not be selling any of their first-team players to their rivals, especially at this stage of the transfer window.

The Merseyside club have long been interested in the Chelsea defender, with the 21-year-old also being linked with a move to Anfield during the tenure of former manager Jurgen Klopp.

Gomez’s future will be decided soon as there are only six days left in the transfer window.
