Liverpool and Barcelona investigate Mohamed Simakan

RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan has been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga club, with top clubs including Barcelona and Liverpool interested.

According to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Barcelona and Liverpool have made enquiries about the 24-year-old defender. He can play as a central defender, full-back and defensive midfielder and could be a good addition for the two clubs.

Liverpool need more quality and depth in their defence and the Bundesliga star would be an ideal addition for them. Joel Matip left the club earlier this summer when his contract expired and he will need to be adequately replaced.

Liverpool could use Mohamed Simakan

The prospect of a move to Liverpool could be attractive to Simakan and it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will follow up their enquiries with an official offer. Plettenberg claims that RB Leipzig are open to selling the player for the right price this summer.

He has a contract until 2027 and is unlikely to be a cheap signing. It remains to be seen whether Barcelona will pursue the defender. The Spanish giants are struggling financially and may not be able to afford him.

Both teams are hoping the player will be available for a reasonable fee. Premier League rivals Newcastle United are also investigating a possible move for the player. All three clubs would be an exciting opportunity for the defender and he could be tempted to leave this summer. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

A move to the Premier League or La Liga is a great opportunity for the player and playing regularly at a high level could accelerate his development.
