Sunday was elimination day for the 2024 Little League Baseball World Series.

All four games on the schedule were win-or-go-home contests, with two in the United States Pool and two in the International Pool. It all centered on the MLB Little League Classic at Williamsport’s Historic Bowman Field between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers.

The now annual MLB game gives Little League players exposure to the highest level of the sport, but at first there was a lot of pressure in their own games as well.

New York beats Illinois 4-0

On Sunday, Vin Ruggiero and Dean Scarangello won 4-0 for New York over Illinois.

Ruggiero threw five shoutout innings and was aided by impressive defense behind him. He didn’t need much run support, but New York provided enough with a four-run fourth inning.

Scarangello’s two-RBI single to the opposite field highlighted the rally, which also included runs by Chace Curro and Alex Torres.

Scarangello wasn’t done yet, as he took the mound in the sixth inning and preserved the shutout, keeping New York’s hopes of qualifying for the Little League Baseball World Series alive.
