Liam Payne’s text to mentor before plunging to his death comes to light

Liam Payne hooked up with Nicole Scherzinger after being dropped from his record label Universal Music.

The Pussycat dolls alum, 46, was one of the last people to text on the day Liam Payne died, according to composer Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Webber, who is working with Scherzinger on the Broadway musical Sunset Blvd., spoke about her and Payne’s interaction in a Billboard interview published Thursday.

“I guess something that hasn’t been said yet, and I guess I could say, is that she obviously mentored Liam from One direction,” said Webber, 76.

“On the Wednesday when he died, she was still texting him that day,” the British musician added.

Webber also revealed that Scherzinger, 46, learned of Payne’s tragic death shortly before her Broadway debut took center stage.

“She had just heard he died,” Webber said. “And the fact that she did the show at all is extraordinary. I mean, she’s a wonderful, wonderful woman.

“She is without a doubt one of the best artists I have ever worked with.”

The relationship between Payne and Scherzinger dates back to 2010, when… Not Cha singer was a jury member The X Factor Britain.

At the time, Scherzinger worked with fellow judges Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh to connect Payne with his One direction band members Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan.

“They are just too talented to put away and they have just the right look and the right charisma on stage,” she said in footage from 2022. “I think they would do really well in a boy band together.”

“They look like little stars,” Scherzinger continued. ‘You can’t get rid of little stars. You put them all together.”

The boy band recorded albums and performed together for five years before announcing a hiatus in 2015.

Payne and Scherzinger have also reportedly filmed the upcoming Netflix series Building the bond together before he died.

The Buttons hitmaker acted as a judge and mentor on the unscripted show, which wrapped production in August. Term reported earlier this month.

Payne died on October 16 after falling from a third-floor balcony of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

A partial autopsy report shows the 31-year-old hitmaker had cocaine, crack and the antidepressant benzodiazepine in his system when he died.
