Leicester confident of signing Oliver Skipp for £20m-plus | Leicester City

Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp will undergo a medical at Leicester City on Sunday in preparation for a move worth more than £20million.

If the move is completed within 24 hours as expected, Skipp will end his 16 years at Spurs. He joined the Spurs academy aged six but has been used sparingly in the first team as his playing time has been limited. Skipp, who spent a season on loan in the Championship with Norwich in 2020-21, has made 40 league starts for Spurs, coming on as a substitute 37 times.

Leicester have struggled to attract reinforcements following promotion to the Premier League, but are set to make Skipp their sixth summer signing. Coincidentally, Spurs visit Leicester on Monday in their season opener. Harry Winks is expected to meet his former club, but Skipp’s transfer will not be completed in time for the 23-year-old to do so.

“Every season you want to strengthen, you want to strengthen,” Leicester manager Steve Cooper said on Friday. “It’s been a quiet market. When I knew this week that there would be no additions for Monday, I put that to one side and concentrated on Monday. That’s the only thing we can control.”

Leicester’s most recent signing was a loan deal for Brighton midfielder Facundo Buonanotte, who made 13 appearances in the top flight last season. Abdul Fatawu, Caleb Okoli, Michael Golding and Bobby Decordova-Reid also arrived this summer.
