Leicester are set to sign Facundo Buonanotte on loan, with the Brighton star due to undergo a medical today – while Steve Cooper has four more players in his sights before the deadline

  • Facundo Buonanotte could become Leicester’s fifth summer signing
  • Steve Cooper’s team spent £32million on new players in the transfer window
  • Buonanotte can play as an attacking midfielder and can also operate on the right

Leicester are set to loan Facundo Buonanotte to Brighton, with him due to undergo a medical with the Foxes on Thursday.

The Argentine, who plays as an attacking midfielder but can also play as a right winger, is said to be moving to the King Power Stadium before the season, with no option or obligation to buy.

After promotion from the Championship last season, Leicester are keen to bolster their squad for what promises to be a tough campaign in the top flight – especially with the threat of a potential points deduction for breaching spending rules still hanging over their heads.

Buonanotte is expected to become the fifth player to join Leicester this summer, with the club spending around £32m on Abdul Fatawu, Caleb Okoli and Michael Golding, as well as signing Bobby Decordova-Reid on a free transfer.

But they also lost midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who followed former manager Enzo Maresca to Chelsea for around £35million earlier this summer, while Kelechi Iheanacho, Dennis Praet and Marc Albrighton left the club when their contracts expired.

Leicester hope to add four more players before the transfer window closes on August 30.

The Foxes were charged by the Premier League in March for breaching the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). An independent panel subsequently dismissed their appeal against the financial breach.

The charges relate to the three seasons prior to the 2022-23 season, which saw Leicester subsequently relegated to the Championship.

In July, Leicester announced that Fatawu would make a permanent move from Sporting Lisbon after his loan spell at the English club ended.
