Leeds United aim to play and score for team in Europe despite impending transfer

Isaac Schmidt played for over an hour and scored for St Gallen in their UEFA Conference League qualifier against Trabzonspor on Thursday, despite joining Leeds United on the final matchday.

The 24-year-old right-back has been a key player for the Swiss club since joining from Lausanne in 2021, making over 100 appearances in all competitions.

Schmidt has been heavily involved in both domestic and continental matches at the start of this season, opening the scoring on 31 minutes of St Gallen’s match in Turkey against Trabzonspor. The match eventually went into extra time after a 1-1 draw, with Schmidt being withdrawn just after the hour mark.

Schmidt completes Leeds United transfer on final day

Schmidt’s performance on the continent has likely left his Leeds supporters and staff on the edge of their seats, given recent reports (via MOT Leeds News) that he will fly to England on Friday to complete the move on the final day of the deadline.

Leeds signed Jayden Bogle this summer, but also lost Archie Gray to Tottenham and Luke Ayling to Middlesbrough, while Stuart Dallas retired.

Besides Bogle, Sam Byram and Junior Firpo are the only natural full-backs in Daniel Farke’s squad, making Schmidt’s arrival very timely.

If Schmidt completes his move, he will become Leeds’ sixth major signing of the summer, joining Bogle, Joe Rodon, Largie Ramazani, Manor Solomon and Joe Rothwell, the latter two arriving on loan from Spurs and Bournemouth respectively.
