Leeds manager Farke admits he’s making the switch after win over Sheff Wednesday

Daniel Farke has admitted he “absolutely” needs to bring in more players before the end of the transfer window despite Leeds United’s 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Friday.

The Whites secured their first win of the new season at their Yorkshire rivals, with goals from Brenden Aaronson and Dan James before and after half-time settling the match at Hillsborough.

It was a much-needed result for Leeds, who had drawn their opening two Championship games 3-3 and 0-0 against Portsmouth and West Brom respectively, as well as being knocked out of the EFL Cup after a 3-0 home defeat to Middlesbrough.

However, it is hard to deny that there is still more work to be done in the final week of the transfer window for Leeds United.

Failure to secure promotion back to the Premier League last season resulted in a mass exodus from Elland Road, with Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, Archie Gray and Glen Kamara all leaving for big fees – while Luis Sinisterra also made his loan to Bournemouth permanent, among a host of other sales.

Leeds have made a number of signings, the most recent being Largie Ramazani from Spanish club Almeria, following the signings of Joe Rodon and Jayden Bogle earlier this summer.

But there is still much to be done if Leeds are to regain promotion contention.

“We definitely need a few reinforcements but I’m pleased for the lads,” Farke told BBC Radio Leeds after Friday night’s win.

Farke praises Leeds’ ‘perfect away game’

Leeds fans will be pleased with the response of their defenders in recent games, having kept two consecutive clean sheets while conceding six goals between Portsmouth and Middlesbrough.

The Whites continued to impress with the ball on Friday, holding 69% of the possession and outscoring their Yorkshire rivals 13-8, which equates to 1.21 to 0.39 in expected goals.

Farke called it the ‘perfect away game’, which is hopefully a harbinger of things to come.

“It was definitely our best performance of the season – the perfect away game,” said Farke.

“We were able to dominate this match more or less from the start. We were brave and dominant.

“The goals we scored were fantastic. The first goal, you can put it in your album for best practice in possession football from the build-up to the finish.

“I’m really happy for the boys because they’ve taken the next step forward. There’s still a lot of work to do, but under these circumstances, for this stage of the season, it was a mature performance and they certainly deserve some credit.
