After Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James makes his fourth Olympic appearance and wins his third gold medal, playing for Team USA is likely over.

The NBA and Olympic legend indicated that Saturday’s final against France could be his last time competing at the Olympics.

“I don’t see myself playing in L.A.,” James said, referring to the 2028 Olympics, according to ESPN’s Marc J. Spears.

It’s understandable that James would opt out of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, as he would be 43 by the time they begin. While James continues to defy the laws of aging, it would be a bit of a surprise if he’s still in Olympic shape by then.

Of course, there were probably many people who previously claimed that James would not be able to play in the 2024 Olympics, and he was ultimately named MVP. Only time will tell if he returns to win a fourth gold medal, but for now, James is not giving fans false hope.

His Lakers colleague, on the other hand, could be back in a Team USA uniform in four years. Anthony Davis, who just played in his second Olympics, indicated he wants to compete again in Los Angeles.

“I think so,” he said of the prospect of returning to Team USA in 2028, according to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.

Kevin Durant, who won a record four gold medals on Saturday, left his answer open when asked whether he would return in 2028.

“Who knows, man. We’ll see,” Durant said, according to Reynolds.

Only time will tell if Team USA icons like James and Durant will compete again in 2028. But if it was their last time playing for the United States, at least they ended it on a positive note.
