Latest news, updates reaching deadline

The Tennessee Titans have already traded away two starters this season as the team has fallen to a 1-6 record.

Tuesday’s trade deadline often gets more attention than it’s worth — the NBA, MLB and NHL fare better than the NFL in this regard — but the Titans under current leadership have shown a willingness to make trades during the regular season as well do when the situation arises. goes badly.

Sunday’s loss to the Detroit Lions (52-14) was yet another reminder of how far away this team is from contention. Tennessee has quite a few veteran players on expiring contracts, even after trading receiver DeAndre Hopkins and linebacker Ernest Jones IV.

Will there be any more Tennessee trades before the November 5 deadline? And who could be a trade target? What about Jeffery Simmons? Here’s what you need to know about the Titans and the trade deadline:

2024 NFL Trade Deadline Tracker: Titans, NFL Trades, Player Targets Ahead of the Trade Deadline

  • Titans traded WR DeAndre Hopkins to the Chiefs for a conditional fifth-round pick in 2025. (October 24)
  • Titans traded LB Ernest Jones IV to the Seahawks for LB Jerome Baker and a 2025 fourth-round pick. (October 23)

  • Jaguars traded OT Cam Robinson and a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings for a conditional 2026 fifth-round pick. (October 30)
  • Panthers traded WR Diontae Johnson and a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Ravens for a 2025 fifth-round pick. (October 29)
  • Patriots traded EDGE Josh Uche to the Chiefs for a 2026 sixth-round pick. (October 28)
  • Texans traded RB Cam Akers and a 2026 seventh-round pick to the Vikings for a 2026 sixth-round pick. (October 15)
  • Browns traded WR Amari Cooper and a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Bills for a 2025 third-round pick and a 2026 seventh-round pick. (October 15)
  • Raiders traded WR Davante Adams to the Jets for a conditional third-round pick in 2025. (October 15)
  • Jaguars traded DL Roy Robertson-Harris to the Seahawks for a 2026 sixth-round pick. (October 14)

A fire sale in the NFL is virtually unheard of – in most years there are about 20 trades in the season leading up to the midseason deadline. But there are a handful of experienced players with expiring contracts who can help the contenders for a lower price. That list includes:

WR Tyler Boyd

Salary: $2.4 million cap hit, expiring deal (per Spotrac)

Boyd, 29, had a bad goal-line drop that led to no points for the Titans in the loss to Detroit. He is tied for second on the team in receptions (21), but he is on pace for the fewest yards per catch of his career. Despite his ties to coach Brian Callahan, a trade would provide an opportunity at the Titans’ younger receiver spot in rookie Jha’Quan Jackson.

DL Sebastian Joseph-Dag

Salary: $3.975 million cap hit, deal expires

Joseph-Day is a solid complementary interior rusher, totaling two sacks and four QB hits in seven games in 183 defensive snaps alongside Jeffery Simmons. He’s the kind of player who could really help an opponent in need of a new lineman, but has little long-term value to a 1-6 team.

DB Quandre Diggs

Salary: $3 million cap reached, deal expires

Diggs has played well in the secondary and would be a good fit long-term alongside Amani Hooker as a safety pairing in Nashville. But Diggs will be 32 next season, and would he re-sign in Tennessee if other contenders come calling?

None of the three players mentioned would yield anything more than a Day 3 pick, but that doesn’t mean underestimating the value of those picks to build roster depth.

It’s unlikely for a number of reasons. No. 1: The Titans need good players, and Simmons, despite a mediocre year in the box score, can still be a major disruptor on the defensive line.

But the more prohibitive issue is his contract. Simmons will count on $21.65 million against the cap this season and $22.8 million against the cap in 2025, per Over the Cap. That’s a lot of cap space to add in the middle of the season, and only a handful of teams could afford to do that. Of those, only the 49ers and Lions can be considered contenders.

  • The trade deadline is Tuesday, November 5 at 3:00 PM CT. All transactions should be completed by then.
  • This deadline is a week later than last season following a league-wide vote to ensure the deadline does not occur until after Week 9 has passed.
  • There have been nine transactions since the regular season began in September.
