Las Vegas police union continues to oppose new NFL access policy

The NFL’s new access policy for certain locations in its stadiums continues to face fierce opposition from the Las Vegas police union.

Via Noble Brigham of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, union president Steve Grammas said the Las Vegas Police Protective Association continues to recommend its members failure to comply with procedures requiring facial recognition to enter certain parts of the location.

Grammas said the union, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and NFL personnel held a Zoom meeting on Friday to discuss the issue. No progress was made; Grammas said officers will not abide by the new procedures.

The Raiders and the NFL still have some time to figure it out, but not much. The team’s first two games will be played away. The Raiders open their home game on September 22 against the Panthers.

The league will have a problem if the police refuse to officiate the game. At some point, the NFL and/or the Raiders will have to hire their own private unit to secure the venue before, during, and after the game.
