Kyrie Irving joins Luka Doncic on injury report before Mavericks-Jazz game

The Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz will face off on Thursday night, but the Mavs received a concerning update before the game. Luka Doncic (right knee contusion) and PJ Washington (right knee sprain) were already among the Mavericks on the NBA injury report. However, Kyrie Irving was added to the injury report on Thursday due to a right shoulder sprain.

The good news is that Dereck Lively II, who previously battled a shoulder injury, was not on the injury report. Lively returned for the Mavs’ game against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday.

Doncic was listed as likely for Tuesday’s game and was ultimately made available. Washington was doubtful and was ultimately excluded. Irving’s addition to the injury report on Thursday leaves the Mavs with renewed injury concerns early in the season.

Dallas currently has a record of 5-6. The Mavericks have fallen short of expectations in 2024-25, but injuries are a major reason for their underperformance. Will Kyrie Irving play against the Jazz tonight?

Irving has been ruled out, via Andy Larsen of the Salt Lake Tribune. Just like Washington, who is dealing with a sprained knee, and Dante Exum, who is recovering from right wrist surgery. Doncic will play despite his knee bruise.

Kyrie has played well despite the Mavericks’ overall struggles to start the new season. He is currently averaging 25.2 points per game on 54.5 percent field goal shooting and 54.1 percent three-point shooting. Irving is also averaging 4.9 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.

The Jazz haven’t exactly played that well, as they will enter the game with a 2-8 record. Still, Irving’s eventual injury status will be important for this game.

When it comes to whether Kyrie Irving will play tonight against the Jazz, the answer is no.
